Municipal water efficiency and network management

Scope

The base system-establishment periods are 18 months for metropolitan municipalities and their water/sewerage administrations, 21 months for non-metropolitan provincial municipalities, and 24 months for non-metropolitan district municipalities with a population over 50,000.

Plan the field implementation

Define district metered area (DMA) boundaries, supply sources and reservoirs. Record inlet flow and zone consumption over matching periods. Identify critical elevations and service-pressure requirements before pressure-control selection. Minimum night flow must be evaluated alongside legitimate night consumption; it is not automatically the leakage rate.

Certificate criteria

Municipal criteria combine water-loss performance, reporting boundaries, monitoring, reuse, landscaping, training and management-system requirements. Green water-loss limits are 25% for metropolitan/provincial municipalities and 30% for other municipalities; turquoise specifies 20%. These are certificate criteria, not promised savings from a valve.
